Epoch launches September 1; open for pre-orders now

After more than four years of writing plus six months of design and production, Epoch: A Poetic Psy-Phi Saga is finally here! The official launch date is September 1, 2024.

A few words on ordering and formats:

The paperback is the format I recommend for most readers. It is an attractive package and comfortable to hold in one’s hands. It is produced by Amazon’s print-on-demand service, so it will arrive fairly quickly. It is priced at $19.95 and can be ordered on or after the launch date. If you want to be reminded on the launch date, sign up for the email list on the home page.

The eBook is what Amazon calls a “print replica” or formerly a “facsimile” eBook. This means that it does not have resizeable, reflowable text, but rather is just like reading a PDF. This was necessary because it is poetry and the line breaks matter. So, the eBook requires a computer or tablet running the Kindle app. It cannot be downloaded to an actual Kindle device, and the text is too small to be read on a phone. To optimize the reading experience, perhaps at some expense in overall attractiveness, I have trimmed the margins relative to the paperback and hardcover. Otherwise the interior of the book is identical and is sourced from the same PDF file. If you prefer reading electronic formats, the eBook is for you, and should work quite well. It is priced at $9.95 and can be pre-ordered now for delivery at launch.

Finally, the hardcover has an interior identical to the paperback, but with a very pretty matte case-laminate cover. It does not come with a dust jacket. I primarily produced the hardcover for promotional and gift purposes, but it is available for ordering now through Amazon, priced at $39.95. The hardcover is printed by IngramSpark, and I have heard rumors (unconfirmed) that it takes a long time to receive Ingram books when ordered through Amazon. After launch, I will set up a direct link for ordering through Ingram – likely at a lower price and a somewhat quicker (though nothing like Prime) delivery. If you love hardcovers for reading and/or display, go ahead and order it, but don’t do it for me – given printing costs, distribution discounts, etc., I basically make nothing on the hardcover.
